I’m Depressed and Need Support

Having depression can be terribly confusing and isolating, which is why we’re pleased that you’re taking the first step toward better health by reading this. The fact is that more than 17 million adults in the United States have some experience with depression, and this number is on the rise thanks to the current COVID-19 crisis. In fact, one-third of Americans are showing signs of clinical depression and/or anxiety, which means you’re very much not alone.

You’re also not alone when it comes to digging your way out of the depression hole; our team here at High Rock Internal Medicine is ready to provide you with the support you need through our comprehensive care.

To get started, we want to take this opportunity to review the signs of depression, then we’ll describe how we can help get you back to your old self again.

Signs of depression

Everyone experiences sadness from time to time, but depression, or major depressive disorder, goes far beyond this fleeting feeling. The hallmarks of depression include:

  • An overwhelming feeling of hopelessness or sadness
  • A sense of doom
  • Lack of interest in the things you used to enjoy
  • Sleep changes — either too little or too much
  • Appetite changes
  • Irritability or moodiness
  • Trouble focusing or concentrating
  • Fatigue
  • Body aches
  • Self-loathing
  • Reckless behavior

Far and away, the leading symptom is the feeling of hopelessness or despair, no matter how hard you try to find some joy in life. It’s also important to note that while depression is a mood disorder, it can also impact your physical health, as many patients with depression report unexplained body aches or headaches.

There is hope

If any of the symptoms we describe above apply to you, it’s important that you seek our help. When you come in, one of our mental health experts sits down with you and reviews your symptoms, as well as your general health. If they find that you’re struggling with depression, they get you on the road to better mental health as quickly as possible through:

  • Prescription medications, such as antidepressants
  • Counseling and psychotherapy
  • Support groups
  • Lifestyle changes

Please know that, left untreated, depression can quickly spiral out of control, so seeking our support is paramount. Fighting depression can take some time, as there’s no magic bullet, but, together, we can lift you from your place of darkness, allowing you to plug back into the world again.

If you or a loved one is showing signs of depression, please call our office in Lexington, North Carolina at 336-477-9110 to speak to one of our compassionate staff members, or schedule an appointment online.

  4. I loved even more than you will get done right here. The picture is nice, and your writing is stylish, but you seem to be rushing through it, and I think you should give it again soon. I’ll probably do that again and again if you protect this walk.
